Ten Years
Ten Years is a semi-autobiographical exploration of time, place and culture, told through a split narrative.
I hope to highlight a divide that I have become increasingly aware of as I’ve grown older: the environmental and (more importantly) cultural differences between rural suburbs and bigger cities. I'm interested in smaller scenes of everyday life, and how over time, our surroundings help to mold us into distinct adults, with unique histories, opinions and values.
2016 thrust many of these differences onto the national stage in unexpected ways. And I now see Ten Years less about simply highlighting these distinctions, and more about understanding the divides, and bridging gaps wherever possible. And it’s my sincere hope that this story is able to contribute to that ongoing conversation in some meaningful way.
